The animal barrier consists of upper and lower horizontal bars (2,3) fixed rigidly to a series of vertical bars (4,5). The vertical bars form the limits to the windows, through which the animal may put its head. Each of these openings has a moveable barrier (7), which is articulated on a horizontal axis (8), which is perpendicular to the plane of the barrier. The mobile barrier can be locked into a position. This prevents the animal from passing its head through, by retractable cleats (13). The cleats are held automatically in the active position and are retracted under the control of the movement of the upper end (10) of the mobile barrier (7). The cleats are fitted to a series of control rods (14) by means of pivot pins.
