The automatic clutch control allows the clutch (3) between the IC engine and the gearbox (4) to be operated with a variable slip for limiting the transmitted drive torque, during a creep forwards movement or during the vehicle moving off. The clutch is fully closed when the depression of the accelerator pedal is increased, or opened when the pressure on the accelerator pedal is lifted, with subsequent control of the clutch in dependence on the travel situation after a short delay interval.
