Diesel-swellable sealing material comprises a non water-soluble polymer having a glass transition temp. (Tg) of at least 20 deg C below the application temp. selected from (meth)acrylates of formula CH2=C(R1)(C(=O)OR2 (I) (where, R1 = H or methyl; R2 = 2-20C alkyl). Prodn. of the sealing material is also claimed, in which acrylates and/or methacrylates are polymerised at room temp. in the presence of radical formers, opt. crosslinkers and opt. polymerisation accelerators. Fillers are added before or during polymerisation. Pref. the acrylates are selected from lauryl acrylate, myristyl acrylate and/or palmityl acrylate. The crosslinker is a di- or tri-functional monomer. The radical former is an azo cpd. and/or peroxide, pref. azobisisobutyronitrile and/or benzoyl peroxide. The polymerisation accelerator is based on a tertiary amine. The fillers are made of talc, CaCO3, ground quartz, kaolin, soot, ground mineral, mica, sand or silica gel. The sealing material is in the form of strips, foils or profiles, or low viscosity injection material.
