Described is a device for attaching adhesive labels to packaged goods, the device including a pneumatic cylinder (8) with two air inlets (10, 11) connected to a compressed-air supply and/or a vacuum line. Fitted in the cylinder to move between a top dead centre and a bottom dead centre position is a piston (9) mounted at the upper end of a hollow piston rod (7) which has an air port (7.1) in the side, located inside the cylinder (8), and is fitted at the lower end, outside the cylinder, with a suction plunger (3) containing a suction channel (3.1) which can be connected longitudinally to the piston rod (7) and which can be partially closed off from the piston rod by a non-return valve (17). The device also includes a label-transfer unit (5) which conveys individual labels (4) at short intervals into a label-transfer position located below the suction plunger (3) when the latter is in the top dead centre position. Finally, the device includes a control device (19, 19.1, 19.2) which lowers the suction plunger (3) into the label-transfer position.
