Spring-operated emergency brake

The actuating piston (6) is spring-loaded (42) against a brake shoe (40), and is accommodated partly in a release chamber (8). It is supported by a compensation piston (10) via a variable-volume compensation chamber (11) filled with incompressible fluid. On pressurisation via the supply passage (18) of the release chamber with incompressible fluid, the actuating piston is moved in opposition to the spring. The connections (16,18) from the chamber of the accumulator (26) to the release and compensation chambers can be shut off, that to the release chamber being open on pressurisation of the actuating piston, while that to the compensation chamber is shut. On release of the pressure from the release chamber the connection to the accumulator is shut. When there is a pressure drop between the accumulator and the compensation chamber, the connection to the latter is opened.
