A separate compartment (70,72), alongside the exterior of one of the e.g. plastics or light metal halves (32,34), runs parallel to the interior of the case half and can be closed by flexible material e.g. reinforced plastics possibly in the form of a flexible pocket fitted to the outer surface (36,38) of the particular half of the suitcase. Otherwise the compartment is defined by a frame (58,60) integral to the case half. The compartment (70,72) covers the entire surface of the particular half of the suitcase, the two halves (32,34) equipped with complementary edges (48,50) which close together along surface (56) when the case is closed. Each frame element (58,60) has a bottom wall (22) on the standing side (20) plus endwalls at right angles to wall (20) which are joined up by a cover wall. The flexible compartment closer consists of a flexible side (16,18) adjoining the base, side and cover walls of the suitcase.
