FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, production of aluminium by electrolysis of cryolite-alumina melts. SUBSTANCE: when least stable voltage is obtained across electrolyzer after connection to power network voltage is raised and kept within limits 4.2-5.0 V in absence of anode effect. Prior to filling with molten aluminium on to hearth charging of starting raw materials is carried out over periphery of shaft in the following sequence: layer of cryolite, layer of return electrolyte and alumina in unspecified proportions. Burning period in this case amounts to 18.0-40.0 h. Connection of electrolyzer to electric circuit can be carried out before hardening of molten aluminium poured on to hearth. EFFECT: prolonged service life of electrolyzer, improved quality of produced aluminium, decreased power consumption and unproductive period of electrolyzer. 5 cl, 1 tbl |
