The device (100) is fitted to an internal combustion engine, especially on a chainsaw or grinder. It has a duct (11) for combustion air, with has a mouth (17) which is located in the centre (Z) of a channel (10) for cooling air, and which faces into the flow. The mouth supports a cap-shaped attachment (18), whose opening faces away from the flow of the cooling air, and the channel has equipment (13) for creating a swirl in the flow. The channel may also be connected to delivery equipment, which may be in the form of a fan.
