The method proposed used a heated screw-type extruder (1) into which continuous fibres (2) are drawn under their own tension, cut and mixed, and then output as the finished compound. In order to obtain a high proportion of long fibres in the finished compound, the invention proposes that the continuous fibres (2) are impregnated with the plastic in an impregnation unit (3) before they enter the extruder (1).
