Catering kitchen waste disposal unit incorporates:(a) a water filter (12) together with a solid wastes inlet (11) which transports the solid wastes, from which the water is subsequently sepd.; (b) an outlet (13) removing water which has been sepd. from solid wastes; (c) a dry solids crusher (20) and crushing rotor (24) which processes waste solids from which water has been removed (12); (d) a micro organic solids break-down vessel (40), which processes solids from the crusher (20) by means of microorganisms borne on a substrate (41); (e) a mixer paddle (44) incorporated within the break-down vessel (40) and which agitates the substrate (41), and (f) a water outlet (18) for discharge of water received from the water outlet (13), together with the gases which are the prod. of the contents in the break-down vessel (40).
