Digital data transmission circuit for warning or vehicle electronic systems

The circuit transmits digital data between a data source and a data sink, which are connected with each other over cables and/or lines. The data sink is connected to a conductor over a connection unit which contains a peripheral building block, a program memory, a microprocessor and a data memory. The peripheral building block contains interfaces for receiving or sending data and for the connection of corresponding instruments. The peripheral building block writes and/or reads data directly into or from the data memory, when the microprocessor does not access the data memory. A gate-array is used as peripheral building block, which contains a set of instructions which were transferred by the microprocessor to the program memory. The gate-array monitors the program execution of the microprocessor constantly, and instructions which are recognised are compared with commands in the gate-array and evaluated for access to the data memory. The data are read and/or written in form of bytes, and control signals serving for the access to the program memory of the microprocessor are used for the data transfer.
