<p>PURPOSE:To improve picture compression efficiency by revising a noted picture element to be coded into other picture element when a difference between a value predicted as to the noted picture element and preceding value is a prescribed value or below. CONSTITUTION:A picture signal from an input means 1 such as a video camera or an image scanner is subjected to AD conversion in 8-bit by an A/D converter 2, stored in a picture memory 3, an MPU 6 applies coding to transfer the compressed code to a MODEM 7. The MODEM 7 applies digital modulation to the code and sends the result to a transmission line or a recording medium. When a difference between a predicted value as to the noted picture and the preceding value is a prescribed value or below, the noted picture element to be coded is changed into other picture element and then coded. Thus, the picture information is efficiently coded.</p> |
