A device for sensing the position of a human body includes: a light focusing device 10 for converging infrared rays emitted from the human body; a guiding device 11 for guiding only those converged rays which strike the end face of the guide onto an infrared ray sensing device 12 for sensing the infrared rays passing through the guide; a direction shifting device 13 for line-scanning the guide and thus the sensing direction of the infrared ray sensing device in right-left directions along lines which correspond to long distance, medium distance and short distance of the sensed body; a circuit device for amplifying and A-D converting the output of the infrared ray sensing device; and a determination device for determining the position, movement direction and activity of a sensed human body using an output signal of the circuit device and the scan time of the direction shifting device.
