The invention relates to agents and pharmaceutical compositions containing agents that regulate cellular protein kinase activity. Such compositions, when administered to cells expressing activated ras, induce these cells to undergo apoptosis. These compositions and agents can be used to treat diseases associated with protein kinase activity including carcinomas, sarcomas, lymphosarcomas, leukemias and other diseases which correlate with increased protein kinase activity and especially protein kinase C activity. The invention also relates to methods for determining the efficacy of chemotherapeutic agents and to methods for characterizing tumors by screening for reduced protein kinase activity. |
