PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To vary a retardation quantity according to places of a film by selectively forming regions where the tilt angles of liquid crystal molecules vary in arbitrary positions. SOLUTION: The phase difference film 100 has first regions (recessed parts) 101 having first plane patterns and second regions (projecting parts) 102 having second plane patterns and having the thickness larger than thickness of the first regions 101. The process for producing the phase difference film 100 having such constitution is executed by applying, for example, a liquid resist on a pair of substrates 11a, 11b and exposing the resist by selective irradiation with light via a mask, etc., then subjecting the resist to development processing, thereby forming resist films 12a, 12b having required patterns. Next, oriented films 13a, 13b are formed on these resist films 12a, 12b and are subjected to rubbing treatment by rubbing cloth. At this time, a difference in level is generated between the regions where the resist films 12a, 12b remain and the regions where the films are removed. The surfaces of the oriented films 13a, 13b are thus rugged. |
