PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the capacity of the DC charging section of a self-excited var compensator so as to reduce the size and cost of the charging section by holding a DC establishing state by driving the charging section when the compensator is temporarily stopped and recharging the charging section unnecessary or shortening the charging time of the section at the time of restarting the compensator. SOLUTION: When a self-excited var compensator(SVC) is temporarily stopped, a DC charging section 1 always holds the necessary power in a DC voltage establishing state. When the section 1 holds the power in the establishig state, a capacitor section C gradually and naturally discharges through a circuit resistor, etc., with time after the SVC is temporarily stopped, but the discharged amount is always replenished. Consequently, when the operation of the SVC is restarted by restarting the section 1 after the temporary stoppage of the SVC is completed, the recharging of the capacitor section C is not required or the charging time of the section C is shortened. Therefore, the sizes of the transformer Ta and rectifier D of the charging section 1 and the cost of the section 1 can be reduced, because no such a large-capacity DC charging section that must be charged in a short time is required and the capacity of the charging section 1 can be reduced. |
