Prepn. of racemic amine derivs. of formula CH(R<1>)((CH2)nR<2>)-NHR (I) comprises treatment of optically active amides of formula C*H(R<1>)((CH2)nR<2>)NH-C(=O)R<3> (II) with strong base opt. with an organic solvent and opt. treatment of racemic amide of formula CH(R<1>)((CH2)nR<2>)NH-C(=O)R<3> (Ia) with either: a) water in the presence of base or acid opt. with an organic solvent; or b) where R<3> = H with alkali metal hydroxide or alkali earth metal hydroxide. n = 0-2; R<1>, R<2> = opt. substd. alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, aryl or heterocyclyl; provided that R<1> and R<2)<CH2)n are different; R = H or COR<3>; and R<3> = H, NH2, opt. substd. alkyl, alkoxy (opt. contg. heteroatoms or groups) cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, aryl or heterocyclyl. |
