PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an oil-absorbing lubricant which can be worked into a long product and can generate sufficient pressure for bending an optical fiber when absorbing an insulation oil. SOLUTION: 100 pts.wt. of rubber is admixed with 12.5-50 pts.wt. of oil- absorbing material exhibiting oil-absorbing lubricity to rubber, e.g. ethylene- propylene rubber, ethylene-propylene-diene copolymer, butyl rubber or butadiene rubber. When the compounding quantity is less than 12.5 pts.wt., the swelling rate and oil absorption ratio do not increase sufficiently and the difference is not prominent as compared with the case where only rubber is employed. On the contrary, when the compounding quantity is exceeds 50 pts.wt., bores or creases appear possibly on the surface after the oil absorbing material has swelled. This composition realizes an oil absorbing material which can be compression molded and worked into a long product while exhibiting the properties of both rubber and oil absorbing material and generating sufficient pressure for bending an optical fiber upon swelling.
|
