The unit includes an optical waveguide which transmits a laser beam and at least one element for converting the laser beam into visible and incoherent light which faces the optical waveguide. It also includes at least one security or safety element, which faces the conversion element, which is transparent to the visible and incoherent light and which is able to stop the residual laser beam which may emerge from the conversion element. Accordingly, the visible and incoherent light can be observed through the safety element. The unit may be used with electric signs and markings.
