PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compound useful as an intermediate for producing medicines, agrochemicals and functional materials by a simple method and in high purity. SOLUTION: This alkoxynaphthalenecarboxylic acid derivative is expressed by formula I (X1 to X4 are each H, an alkyl, an aryl, etc.; R1 is H, an aryl, an aralkyl, etc.), e.g. 2-n-hexyloxynaphtalene-6-carboxylic acid. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a hydroxynaphthalenecarboxylic acid (e.g. 1-hydroxynaphthalene-2-carboxylic acid) or a hydroxynaphthalenecarboxylic acid ester derivative (e.g. 1-hydroxynaphthalene-5-carboxyloc acid) with an alkylating agent (e.g. methyl bromide) to obtain a basic salt of the derivative of formula I, which is separated as a crystal form or an aqueous solution, and further being in contact it with an acid (e.g. hydrochloric acid). |
