The pointer (13) has a boss (14) and a body (15) made of light permeable material, the boss being suitable for insertion on a drive shaft (12). Via a light conducting plate (1) light passes through the boss into the body. An opaque cap (21) which is open to the body is inserted on the side of the boss remote from the light plate. An opaque screen (22) penetrates into an aperture (18) in the boss in the region of the pointer axis (3). Cap and screen can be combined as a single component.
