[Also in Division E2] An articulated materials handling vehicle comprises front and rear frame sections 12, 14 connected about a vertical pivot axis 16 by spaced hinges 30, 32, each of which transmits load between the sections in one direction axially of the hinge only and comprises an unsymmetrically truncated ball 54 which is rotatably mounted on a pin 34 secured to one frame section and is housed in a mating socket 56 secured to the other frame section. The pin 34 is secured in aligned apertures 36, 38 through tongues 22 projecting from the rear frame section 14 by a nut 42, and is prevented from rotating in the tongues by a lock plate 41 which is welded to the pin-head 40 and includes an arm secured against an abutment on one tongue 22 by an adjustable locking cam (Fig. 5, not shown). An aluminium bronze collar 50 supported by the head 40 transmits axial load to the larger end face 52 of the ball 54. The socket 56 is press-fitted into an aperture in a tongue projecting from the front frame section 12. The ball 54 normally rotates with the socket relative to the pin 34 and collar 50, and moves in the socket only to accommodate misalignment of the tongues 18, 22. Lubricant passages 66, 68, 72 and grooves 70, 74 provide for lubrication of the bearing surfaces.</p> |
