An Al extrusion alloy has the composition: Si0.15-0.6 wt.%; Fe up to 0.5 % preferably 0.15-0.35 %; Cu up to 0.3 %; Mn 0.8-1.2 %; Zn up to 0.1 %. An extrusion billet is homogenised at 590-630 DEG C and then cooled at a rate of 10-150 DEG C/hour to control dispersoid spacing preferably at least about 1 mu m and Mn solid solution content preferably from about 0.55 % to 0.65 %. The extrusion billets can be extruded faster at lower extrusion pressures and with improved extrudate surface finish. |
