The connecting rod has two relatively movable sections (3,4) which are in active connection via an energy accumulator (2). The accumulator is formed as a single or multi-stage fluid spring. This has an associated deceleration member (5), which acts in fluid spring working direction. The rod section (3) associated with the crank pin (7) is formed as a hollow chamber (10). The other rod section (4) is associated with the piston, is formed as an axially movable pressure piston (41), and moves in the hollow chamber. The piston is held by a pressure spring (27) against a stop (9) in the end area of the crank pin-sided rod section.
