MODULAR JACK SUBASSEMBLY FOR USE IN A NETWORK OUTLET

A modular jack insert subassembly (10) for use in a network outlet assembly (2) includes a mounting insert (16) to which a modular jack (12) with conventional panel stops (14) is attached without the use of additional fasteners. The mounting insert (16) has a front portion (41) with a window (20) through which the modular jack (12) is accessible, and a pair of resilient latch arms (18) which extend rearwardly from the front portion. Each of the latch arms includes a latch member (19) for securing the modular jack insert in the network outlet assembly, and an inwardly facing snap fastener (22). The snap fasteners (22) are cammed outwardly when the modular jack (12) is inserted from the rear, and then the snap fasteners resile behind the panel stops (14) to prevent withdrawal of the modular jack from the mounting insert.
