A plug gauge (1) for checking shape errors, in particular the roundness of a valve seat (60), comprises seating surfaces (13, 14, 34) adapted for cooperating with the surface (64, 66) of seat (60), and a pneumatic circuit with an annular nozzle (50) at the seating surfaces (13, 14, 34). The gauge comprises two coaxial cylindrical elements, one (6) of the two housed within the other (18), that can reciprocally translate in an axial direction and that comprise associated resting surfaces (13, 14, 34) both resting on surface (64, 66) of the seat to be checked (60). The annular nozzle (50) is substantially defined by an internal (20) and an external (12) cylindrical portion of said two reciprocally movable elements (18, 6).
