The method involves selective operation of a controller (2) in a normal operating mode or in a workshop operating mode. In the normal operating mode, all components (5,6) of the vehicle (1) connected to the controller, are driven via electrical control elements (4) associated with the components. In the workshop operating mode, only a lock (6) for a personal safety zone (7) cannot be controlled into an "open" functional position. The workshop operating mode is activated by entering a code into the controller via code keys. The entered code coincides with a code stored in the controller.
