This invention relates to methods of x-ray diagnostic imaging the blood pool, liver, spleen and/or lymph system of a mammal comprising administering a contrast effective amount of a contrast agent having structure (1) wherein: n is 0 to 12, m is 1 or 2, R<1> is (2), X and Z are independently H or NR<2>COR<3>, Y is CO2, CH2O, O or NH and R<2> and R<3> are independently H, alkyl having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms or aryl having from 6 to 11 carbon atoms. This invention further relates to novel contrast agents having structure (1) wherein R<1> is (3), R<2> is H and R<3> is CH3 to x-ray contrast compositions comprising such agents, and to method of x-ray diagnostic imaging utilizing such agents.
