The instrument comprises processing means for measuring the force which is exerted on the cartilage and the collapse caused by said force, in order to obtain a value of the cartilage rigidity. It is characterized in that it is comprised of indentation means (1) including a housing for a metal strip (6) carrying the displacement transducer (12). It has support means (13, 15 and 34) for the indentation means, between which is arranged the force transducer (20) so that, when applying the force to the cartilage, once the indentation has been done, a displacement of the metal strip (6) takes place, and consequently the cartilage rigidity is obtained in the processing means. The instrument is also characterized in that it is portable.
