Hydraulic damper with variable characteristics

The damper has a central cylinder (3) open at both ends and held centrally inside an outer support tube (31). The outer tube is closed at the bottom while the top seal includes a guide (37) for the piston rod (7). The cylinder is held inside the sleeve by a seal (33) which divides the damper into two chambers. The top of the cylinder is likewise supported on the outer support tube. The two chambers are linked by a variable control valve (21) fitted to the outside of the damper. The top support for the cylinder is formed by a widened cylinder end secured on the inside of the outer support tube. A simple spot weld process suffices. The seal includes a limited flow aperture (27).
