Apparatus for electrostatically depositing spacer elements for spacing apart the substrates of a liquid crystal display includes a power supply 36 for supplying a voltage to the conductor lines of a liquid crystal substrate 22 which voltage has the same polarity as the charge on the spacer elements. The apparatus further includes a sealed enclosure 20, a spacer element container 24 and an ejector 28 for ejecting the spacer elements into the enclosure 20. The spacer elements are charged by a cascade transformer 30. High pressure nitrogen from tank 32 is supplied to the ejector to assist ejection.
