Cylindrical abrasive wheel for manufacturing non metallic particles, especially rubber

The wheel (3) or cylinder has a cylindrical outer abrasive surface (1) which is profiled. The surface may have grooves (7) where there is no abrasive. The grooves may be aligned at an angle to the direction of rotation and form vee shapes on the surface. There may be holes through from the inside of the wheel into the grooves through which air can be fed. As the wheel rotates it abrades the rubber and breaks off particles, causing heat at the contact point. The grooves allow air to be introduced and to flow past the contact point. This reduces the rise in temperature of the abrasive wheel.
