A method and an apparatus for contouring the shoulder areas (38) of retreaded tires (54) is disclosed. A cutter (62), preferably having a heated blade (66), is disposed proximate at least one shoulder of a retreaded tire (54). The retreaded tire (54) is then rotated, while the cutter blade (66) is moved into contact with the side wall (16) of the tire (54) proximate the joint between the tire casing (12) and the tread layer (50). A portion of the tire casing (12) and the tread layer (50) is cut away along the entire shoulder area (38) of the retreaded tire (54) to provide an aesthetically pleasing contoured surface extending from the tire casing (12) to the tread layer (50). |
