Date Feb. 13, 1997The present invention relates to Gram-negative sulfate-reducing bacteria strains which grow under anaerobic conditions at pH values between 3.9 and 9.5 and temperatures between 3 DEG C. and 45 DEG C. and which reduce sulfate to sulfide, utilize methanol as a source of carbon and energy, do not require further carbon and energy sources in addition to methanol, and are tolerant to metals. The present invention further relates to methods of decontaminating sulfuric-acid, metal-containing and radioactively contaminated water, particularly methods of decontaminating pit and flooding water in disused uranium mines or washing water from soil refining plants. |
