Vehicle airbag reaction canister assembly comprising a housing and a cylindrical inflator (30) with first ports for discharging gas (62) into an airbag and second ports for discharging excess gas (60) into flow channels (28) between the inflator (30) and an inner surface of a curved bottom wall (25) of the housing which may be surface roughened or provided with a filter. One or more rupturable foil layers (32) cover the ports and permit gas to escape through the first ports at a lower pressure than that at which gas can escape through the second ports. The ports may all have the same diameter and a greater foil thickness is provided over the second ports.
Alternatively, the second ports are larger than the first ports and all ports are covered with foil having the same thickness.
