PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce light quantity loss, to improve picture quality and to make a device compact by integrally forming an optical multiplexing means, an optical conversion element and diffraction gratings. SOLUTION: White light flux collected at A0 passes through color resolving- multiplexing element S0 before it is resolved into three color rays in RGB bands, and they are made incident on optical modulation elements T0, T+1, T-1 and are reflected off a reflection plate 7. The light fluxes in individual wavelength bands are optically modulated before they are made to exit from the optical modulation elements T0, T+1, T-1 respectively. The light in the wavelength band G modulated by the optical modulation element T0 is multiplexed, at an optical modulation element S0, with the light in the wavelength band R resolved by a color resolving/multiplexing element S+1 and demodulated by the optical modulation element T+1, the light in the wavelength band B resolved by a color resolving/multiplexing element S-1 and demodulated by the optical modulation element T-1 and the light, and is then made to be approximately parallel light at a light collecting element A0 to exit from it. |
