A curved metal plate is inserted in a pocket (8) inside a leather pouch (2), together with padding on each face of the plate. The pouch has a side flap (24). The edges of the pouch and flap are stitched (10). Stitched to the vertical edge of the flap are two burr strips, e.g. "VELCRO". The corresponding strips of material (20) for the burrs to grip, are attached to the front of the pouch. The flap is wrapped around the lower part of the horse's rear leg and fastened. An alternative version has two smaller side flaps, so that the fastening takes place at the back of the leg.
