PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool composed of tungsten carbide based cemented carbide covered with an artificial diamond coat excellent in close contact bonding characteristic. SOLUTION: This tool has a composition where Co: 3-9%, (Ti, Ta, Nb) C and/or (Ti, Ta, Nb) CN: 10-40% are included by wt.% and the rest is composed of WC and innevitable impurities. The tool has on its surface a hard layer which is composed substantially of (Ti, Ta, Nb) C and/or (Ti, Ta, Nb) CN and of which the average thickness is 3-40μm while of which the surface roughness is 1-30μmRmax. On the surface of the hard layer, an artificial diamond coat is formed.
