PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form left/right symmetrical weld bead as well as to execute groove copying in high precision by welding with reversing the rotating direction of arc for right half period and left half period of oscillation, further integrating left/right arc voltage respectively and reversing the direction of oscillation. SOLUTION: A center 9 of rotating arc is oscillated so as to take the locus of straight line part A→B→C→D→E→F→A in the groove 3. A rotating direction of arc is clockwise for a straight line part A→B section at the right side R of groove 3 and counterclockwise for a straight line part D→E section at the left side L. Advancing directions of arc in contact with left/right groove wall faces 8, 7 are made same, so the weld beads are turned to left/right symmetry. Arc voltage or welding current is integrated at right side/left side respectively, when a difference of the integrated values exceeds the reference value, oscillation is stopped and reversed. Thus, automatic groove copying is made possible even when a width of groove is changed.
