PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient laser piercing method and device therefor by removing such obstacles as rust, marking and paint adhered to the surface of a material to be machined before piercing. SOLUTION: The method and the device are constituted of an obstacle removing process, in which a laser beam 1 is emitted with a spot diameter larger than the piercing diameter that the focal position F of a laser beam 1 is moved against a material W to be pierced and in which an assist gas 2 is also injected, and a piercing process in which, the laser beam 1 is jetted to the material W with a prescribed spot diameter that, after the obstacle removing process, the focal position F is moved to a piercing position and in which the assist gas 2 is also jetted. |
