PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-base coating compsn. excellent in adhesion to a substrate, water resistance, etc., by using a water-base compsn. contg. specific fine acrylic copolymer particles and fine urethane resin particles. SOLUTION: This compsn. contains 30-90wt.% fine acrylic copolymer particles and 70-10wt.% fine urethane resin particles. The acrylic copolymer particles are obtd. by subjecting a monomer mixture comprising 50-98.5wt.% (meth) acrylate monomer represented by the formula (wherein R<1> is H or CH3 ; and R<2> is 1-12C alkyl), 0.5-10wt.% carboxylatedα,β-ethylenically unsatd. monomer, 1-20wt.% glycidylatedα,β-ethylenically unsatd. monomer, 0-10wt.% at least monofunctional monomer, and 0-30wt.% other monomer copolymerizable with the foregoing monomers to emulsion polymn. in the presence of a reactive (polymerizable) emulsifier.
