PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new halogenated imide compound having high melting point and resistant to agglomeration compared with conventional compound owing to the imide bond in the molecule, exhibiting excellent flame-retardancy and useful as a flame-retardant, etc. SOLUTION: This compound is expressed by formula I or formula If [R<1> is H or methyl; R<2> is H or CH2 X (X is Br or Cl); (m) is an integer of 0-4]. The compound of formula I or formula II can be produced by heating an acid anhydride (e.g. phthalic anhydride) and an amine (e.g. allylamine) in a reaction solvent (e.g. N,N-dimethylformamide) optionally in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. sulfuric acid) to perform the imidation reaction while distilling out the produced water from the reaction system and brominating or chlorinating the obtained imide compound with bromine or chlorine in a solvent (e.g. isobutyl alcohol).
