PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new enzyme consisting of a glycoprotein having a specific amino acid sequence, exhibiting lectin bonding property, antibacterial action, antiviral action and peroxidase activity and useful as an antibacterial agent, antiviral agent, etc. SOLUTION: This new myeloperoxidase contains the amino acid sequence of the formula as the protein part of the glycoprotein, has a molecular weight of about 9×10<4> Dalton determined by SDS-PAGE, an optimum pH of 6, a lectin bonding property, an absorbance ratio of 430nm wavelength to 280nm wavelength of 0.61 and exhibits antibacterial action, antiviral action and peroxidase activity. It has broad antibacterial spectrum and antiviral spectrum and is useful as an antibacterial agent, antiviral agent, etc. The enzyme can be produced by collecting leucocyte from a patient of osteomyelodysplasia syndrome, subculturing the leucocyte, extracting mRNA from the subcultured strain, preparing a cDNA library, screening the library and expressing the DNA. |
