PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep sulfuric acid ion conductivity between electrodes and a separator high even after repeated charging and discharging by burying one sides of acid resistant fibers and projecting the other sides out of the surface of electrode plates. SOLUTION: An electrode plate 4 is produced by filling a grid body 1 with a paste containing an active material 2 prepared by kneading water, sulfuric acid, and a lead oxide powder and at the same time partially burying sheet like glass fibers 3 in the paste and drying the resultant grid body. It is preferable that the fibers 3 are buried as many as possible in the active material 2 in a manner wherein one sides of the fibers 3 are in the inside of the electrode plate 4 and the other sides are projected out of the surface of the electrode plate 4. Alternatively, the fibers 3 may penetrate the electrode plate 4 in the thickness direction as shown as 3' and further alternatively, only the center parts of the fibers 3 may buried in the electrode plate 4 as shown as 3". Consequently, even if bonding force of the active material on the surface of the electrode plate is decreased, the sulfuric acid ion conductivity between the electrode and an electrolytic liquid retaining body is not deceased and thus a sealed type lead acid battery having a long life is obtained. |
