PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the degree of freedom for the adjustment of sharpness only by one spline interpolation operation with respect to spline interpolation operation for picture data. SOLUTION: The 1st order differential coefficient of a cubic spline interpolation function fk corresponding to a section Xk to Xk+1 where an interpolation point Xp exists on a picture element Xk is set so as to have the inclination of an optional previously selected parameter α for determining the sharpness of a secondary picture based upon interpolated picture data from a gradient between original picture data Yk-1 and, Yk+1 corresponding to picture elements Xk-1 , Xk+1 before and after the picture element Xk and the 1st order differential coefficient of the spline interpolation function fk on the picture element Xk+1 is set so as to have the inclination of the parameter α from a gradient between the original picture data Yk and Yk+2 corresponding to the picture elements Xk , Xk+2 before and after the picture element Xk+1 . Consequently interpolated picture data with required sharpness can be obtained by optionally changing the value of the parameter α. |
