The plug (11) has two locking elements (13,16) formed on opposite sides with different shapes (27,28) for co-operation with control surfaces (33) of their counterparts (14,17) on the socket (12). It contains a row of contact pins (21) in a recess (19) of a plastic contact carrier (18) with parallel walls (22,23). One variant (12.1) of the socket is used when insertion forces require the assistance of a U-shaped slider (29). The other variant (12.2) is pref. with low insertion and sepn. forces for which a hairpin moulding (41) suffices with a cutout (48) for the shoulder (26) of the second locking element.
