摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a radiation resistant ribbon type multicore fiber which is less disconnected and has a long fiber length. SOLUTION: A preform is formed by preparing a grooved quartz glass plate 50 which is the source for a preform having many grooves 52 extending in a longitudinal direction at every prescribed interval and inserting pure quartz core/fluorine-doped quartz clad fibers 14 into these grooves 52, then putting and integrating a quartz glass plate to constitute a cap thereon. The quartz glass plate is welded and hermetically sealed at one end of the preform and a quartz glass tube is welded to the other end of the preform. While the air existing in the tube is sucked and discharged from the quartz glass tube side, the preform is melt drawn from the quartz glass plate side fused to one end of the preform, by which the desired radiation resistant ribbon type multicore fiber is obtd.
