PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron emitting element without deterioration and equal in electron emission characteristic, being used suitably for as the electron beam source of an image forming device, etc. SOLUTION: An electron emitting element has a conductive film 3 consisting of a fine particle film where an electron emitting part 2 is made, between electrodes 4 and 5. At this time, the thickness t1 of the fine particle film and the thickness t2 of the electrode fulfills the relation of t1 <=t2 , and besides the average grain diameterϕof each fine particle constituting the fine particle film fulfills the relation of t2 >=ϕ.
