1,228,015. Composite reinforced body. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON HOUSTON-HOTCHKISS BRANDT. 26 June, 1968 [28 June, 1967], No. 30578/68. Heading B5A. [Also in Division B3] A composite body comprises a carrier material having a plurality of aligned long filaments and short fibres embedded in it. It may be made by (i) aligning the filaments in a mould and pouring the liquid carrier material containing short fibres over the filaments to cover them and fill the interstices between them, (ii) by applying the fibres to the aligned filaments in a mould and then applying the carrier material, or by (iii) pouring a composition on to a material reinforced with filaments, the composition solidifying to form short fibres growing unidirecdirectionally. The filaments may be covered with a thin film of the carrier before pouring, e.g. by passing the filaments through a bath of carrier material or by deposition by electrolytic, vacuum vaporization or vapour deposition techniques. The carrier material may be metal or plastics. The interstices may be filled by electrolytic deposition of carrier material. |
