PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To relax a pseudo contour at a low cost while suppressing the deterioration of S/N. SOLUTION: A pseudo contour detector 10 judges whether a picture element value Y(i, j) of a picture element at a prescribed position (i, j) is the peripheral picture element of pseudo contour (pseudo contour point) or not. When it is judged as the pseudo contour point, a pseudo contour judging flag F(i, j) is turned on but when it is not judged as the false contour point, the pseudo contour judging flag F(i, j) is turned off. When the pseudo contour judging flag F(i, j) is turned on, a picture element value transformer 20 generates and outputs a corrected picture element value Yo(i, j) by converting the picture element value Y(i, j) at the prescribed position (i, j) into this picture element value or the approximate picture element value at random. On the other hand, when the pseudo contour judging flag F(i, j) is turned off, the picture element value Y(i, j) is outputted as the corrected picture element value Yo(i, j) as it is. |
